ITC Benguiat Std Font
Free for personal useAbout
Evaluating ITC Benguiat reveals a display serif built entirely around character and atmosphere. Ed Benguiat designed the font with a notably large x-height, unusual high-waisted capitals, and quirky, curved crossbars (most noticeably on the ‘A’ and ‘e’). These features give the typeface an undeniable retro, slightly eerie, and highly stylized Art Nouveau quality. Because of its intense visual personality, it performs phenomenally well in title sequences, vintage book covers, and retro-themed branding that requires a nostalgic or mysterious tone. However, the very distinctiveness that makes it a legendary display font completely ruins it for extended reading. Designers must avoid using ITC Benguiat for body paragraphs, editorial text, or UI navigation, as the ornate details quickly become exhausting and hinder message delivery at smaller sizes.
